More Information
Description
A landmark photographic novel, Chambre Close is the collaboration between French photographer Bettina Rheims and writer and critic Serge Bramly.
Published in 1992 by Gina Kehayoff Verlag, Munich, this edition is a hardcover first printing with a mylar dust jacket, translated from French into English by Paul Gould.
The project takes the form of an artistically erotic photo-novel, pairing Rheims' seminal photographs of women captured in states of undress with fictional voyeuristic confessions from the perspective of 'Monsieur X' written by Bramly. The imagery explores female eroticism and exhibitionism, revealing the body as an act of sensually charged self-reclamation – an essential feature of the KNWLS language of empowerment.
While studying on the MA Fashion course at Central Saint Martins, Chambre Close was the first book KNWLS' Creative Directors Charlotte Knowles and Alexandre Arsenault looked at together. The book then formed the starting point for the Spring/Summer 2027 collection 'Chambre Close', named in homage to the photo series.
KNWLS Keepsakes is a series centred around objects of desire that serve as sources of inspiration for KNWLS' Creative Directors. Chambre Close is the third in a curated selection of books curated for knwls.com.
